Exposure is good, pr is good, creating activity around your work is good, feedback is good. This is a place to get that safely. Present a 15 minute example of your work - a short, a film, a documentary, a scene, a clip, a trailer - whether you are a director, a writer, a D.P., an actress, a costume designer or someone whose work is on 'film'. Work done with rigor and thought, achieving excellence in story-telling, these are valuable skills. Here is a place to find encouragement and celebration.

In keeping with site-wide standards, readers can leave their professional feedback by posting comments (see the comment criteria below). A significant number of thoughtful, perceptive comments will forward your work to the front page - attention you'll be able to cite when you are presenting your work elsewhere.

To participate, you must be a registered user.  Registration is simple and costs nothing - If you have not already done so, you can register here.

If you have already registered, all you have to do is login and you can immediately begin uploading your video or videos (uploaded videos must be 30MB or less) or if you wish, you may link to your video stored on another website (URL). Videos are added from the Add New Video page.  All videos must first be approved by the site administrator before going live.  To view all your submitted videos and check on the status of videos pending approval, you can go to the My Videos page. You may remove your video submissions at any time you wish.

Details on Adding a Video Show/Hide

How to add a new video
You can add videos from local disk or from the Internet. The supported formats are flv (Flash Video), mov (QuickTime), mp4 and mpeg.
Please take a look at file extension of your video before uploading, if the extension is not included in this field, please do not try to upload it.

To add a video from local disk:
  1. Enter the title and text description of your video.
  2. Select an appropriate category for your video.
  3. Ensure that the radio button "from Local Disk" is selected (this is the default), this allows you to see the file selection control. Browse to the desired location on your computer, choose the video file name and click "upload video" to begin uploading it.

Please see the rules regarding acceptable video sizes and formats (listed at bottom) before attempting to upload.
Proceed to "Common Instructions" below.

To add a video from an external source (Internet): Why would I do this?
  1. Enter the title and text description of your video.
  2. Select an appropriate category for your video.
  3. Enter the URL of your video and screenshot and save changes.

Proceed to "Common Instructions" below.

Common Instructions:
  1. Choose aspect ratio (by default it is Normal, 4:3). For more information, see below.
  2. Add Tags for your video - these are keywords to help people easily find it (separate keywords by commas).
  3. Click "upload video" and wait while video is uploaded.
Once uploaded successfully you will see:
"This video has been successfully saved, it will be published after approval by video managers."

At this point you can begin to add another video if necessary. A link is also provided for you to review the video you just uploaded.

The web site administrator will receive an email notifying them of your post. The approval process can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 48 hours depending on the day of the week, time submitted, content submitted and other factors - so please be patient.

Once your video is approved you will receive an email. You can also determine if your video has been approved by going to your "My Videos" page. If approved, you will see a green "yes" under the approved column, if so, proceed to step 7

  1. Click the pencil icon under the edit column next to the video you uploaded.
  2. At this point you need to choose a screen capture shot from your video. By default the first frame of your video is captured. Under the screenshot, you will see a textbox beside "Capture" button that contains "hh:mm:ss". Enter the time you would like to capture and press Capture, if the time you entered is valid (falls within the length of your video), you will see the screen shot update. If you entered an invalid time however, (for example, the video is only 30 seconds and you instructed the site to capture a screenshot at 00:31) you will get the error : "Invalid Time Point".
  3. Once you're happy with the screenshot you've chosen, click update to finalize your new video post.

Your video will now be available for viewing, rating and commenting by others.
Aspect Ratio:
By default, videos are resized to 4:3 aspect ratio when uploaded - this will suffice for most users. However, some users may desire that their videos be viewed in wide-screen format. This format is supported, so if you wish to upload a widescreen formatted video, select the option "widescreen, 16:9" - this will provide the correct aspect ratio and prevent egg head.
Maximum Video Size:
The current maximum allowable video size is 30MB. If you're video exceeds this limit, you will either need to segment it or host it at an external location. In some cases, we will accommodate larger file sizes, but this is taken on a case by case basis. Please contact us at: wiftraction@gmail.com if you believe your video may be applicable.

Close Details

Please do not submit videos of other peoples work. Integrity is important. Ensure that you had a hand in some aspect of the production for any video('s) you submit. Please specify in the description what work you performed, for example "I was the costume designer...". Your work will be accepted for posting if it is appropriate, responsible, and honestly presented for inclusion. Once approved, your video will be available on the Video List page. Submitted videos will then be commented on by the community. Videos that generate a significant amount of thought provoking feedback equalling good ratings will gain front page attention for a select period of time.

Currently, we only allow video files up to 30 Megabytes (MB) to be uploaded. We ask that you edit submissions of your work to keep viewing time at or below 15 minutes. Eventually, we hope to post full-length pieces and become an alternative, accessible, distribution center for women's work... That's in the future.  Here, for now and at least, you can share a sense of your work with others. (If your full length work is available for sale, however, post that resource in the "description box".)

Feedback is important.  We encourage you to comment on submitted works.  We ask that you keep the comments constructive and observant. They don't need to be solely positive, but certainly they need to be respectful of the time and effort it takes to create and express and communicate meaning. And we ask you to pay attention to the craft exhibited- not only the content. We are hoping you will use other criteria than the pop free-for-all of YouTube or the create-an-ad-on-your-phone sites. (Ooops - don't mean to demean the terrific, funny, smart use of particularly YouTube. Those sites just can't be the arbiter of the craft, can they?)

Rate the movie based on your comments:
  1. Is it a good story, told well.
  2. Does the artist who has posted the work positively effect the work.
  3. Does it exhibit knowledge of filmmaking and filmmaking tools.
  4. If you are inclined to recommend it, but think it falls short in some category, recommend it, but also leave your comment.

Ratings range from 0 to 5 stars, you can only rate a submission once.

Both comments and ratings are taken into consideration to help determine which videos become "Featured Videos".  Featured videos get front page attention on the site for a select period of time.
