Seeking Expert Advice
It is one big thing to have talent and a burning desire to use it. But it is another matter to be able to navigate the business deftly enough to express it. You need information. These articles are written by experts in their fields with that need in mind. If after reading one, you would like more information on the subject, please email your questions to Letters to the Editor. The expert will then post the answers. The subjects now and in the near future have been suggested to us in the course of Q&A sessions at meetings and by grantees (such as the Latina New Filmmakers Grants or the Emerging Filmmakers grants) as what talented new-comers really don't know that they need to know. We'd like to hear about more possible subjects from you. Please make suggestions via a Letter to the Editor. And/or If there's a woman expert that you'd like to hear from on her subject, let us know that person's name and we'll try to make that happen.

THE WOMEN IN FILM INTERNATIONAL SUMMIT
Every “two years” since 1997, one of our 40 chapters worldwide hosts a Women In Film International World Summit meeting in one of their cities.

1997 – New York City, USA, 1998 in Los Angeles, USA, 2000 in London, UK, 2002 in Kingston, Jamaica,  2004 in Auckland, New Zealand and 2005 in Los Angeles, USA.

In the ten years prior to those, there were meetings in Calgary, Canada, Atlanta, Georgia, USA and Washington.D.C. USA as the benefits of interacting globally became clear.

The 4 day conferences are designed  to provide professional networking , to receive up-to-date information on funding, distribution and trends, and to become acquainted with resources.  As well, they are a way to get to know the modus operandi of the city or country in which they take place adding to everyone’s knowledge of the global marketplace.

In 2007, the 7th WFTI World summit took place in Toronto, Canada, hosted by the Toronto chapter.  It was very well attended and the WIF/GM Alliance was able to underwrite a webcasting of the majority of panels. Click here to view the website.  You will see and hear panels on pitching, trends in film and documentaries for Telelvision, financing, animation, product placement and more.

Toronto did a great job.
