September 19th. Maybe the second weekend could be designated 'women's movies weekend'. To show financiers that women will go to women's films. Give the damn first weekend to the marketeers. We'll go the second weekend and build our statistics that way. Get the keepers of the charts to do a second chart that shows what movies the women went to.
Then the fact that we are apt to waste the first week setting ourselves up as expert critics without having seen the movie- in every conversations - so no-one will think we should go just because we're women - wouldn't have such an impact. Come the second weekend, then we'd get our asses in gear and enjoy the movie in great numbers. Puhleeze - Get political (small 'p') and get to THE WOMEN. Exceed it's predictions. ( weekend projections from today's charts - THE WOMEN will do $6.3M this weekend, putting it at number 8)

Article titleFrom Elle Alexander
Vice President
Stuntwomen's Association Of Motion Pictures

Hi All:

Sammie and I, along with my Mom, are racing again this year in the Cancer Relay For Life. It is over one year that my Mom, Fran Itkoff, is Cancer Free! We race to keep it that way. Sammie will be wearing her little pink top that says "Racing for Grandma." I will be wearing my same shirt that says "Racing for Mom and Grandma." We look very sharp! If you can help in any way, that's awesome. Thanks in advance.

Can you believe that more than 1.3 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year? Those are staggering statistics, but there is hope. Each of us can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease. That's why I've decided to take action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® event right here in my community.

Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings our community together to help support the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The Society works hard every day to prevent cancer and save lives by supporting groundbreaking research, affecting public policies that protect us from cancer, and educating people on how to prevent or detect cancer early. The Society helps people with cancer right here in our own community. And our efforts at Relay For Life can help the American Cancer SocMore >
Request in November '07As many of you know, I have been conducting interviews with elderly women living on Skid Row for a screenplay I am developing. Prior to moving to LosAngeles, I never imagined I would be drawn in so profoundly but after witnessing the manner in which this city discards seniors who live in poverty, I had no choice but to get involved. I wanted learn more and maybe even make a difference in some way by telling their stories.

In an effort to continue to lend our support, Amanda and I will take another important step to help bring light to the issue of homelessness in Los Angeles County on Saturday, November 17, 2007. We will be helping make a meaningful difference in the lives of over 73,000 homeless men, women and children by walking as a team in the First Annual HomeWalk event. HomeWalk is a non-competitive 5K walk in support of the A Pathway HOME initiative.

If you would like to watch one of the interviews I conducted with Vivien(approx. 9 minutes) pleasevisit:
http://www.xchromosomefilms.com/OnHerOwn.html

Funds raised to help organizations who in turn help the homeless made a difference in Vivien's life. Vivien use to live on the street until she
received help and moved to an SRO run hotel.

Consider the fact that every night 73,000 people in Los Angeles are
homeless.

Thank you.

Regarding raising money for a chapter...May I make a suggestion? I've been sending out emails to over 25 women to join WIF for our membership drive. Could we do a similar drive for new sponsors? When I use to work at Event Fund raising, years ago, there were books for Corporate Giving! We sent out solicitation letters to Corporations from A-Z and we got new equipment, products for the office, $$, etc. Each corporation provides a guideline to what their corporation loves to provide (as a tax write off for them - and good PR for community giving). If we did this solicitation drive via Email it wouldn't be a huge investment, as I remember, we also did many solicitations via FAX.
Just a thought,

Upon being asked to fill out an 18 page comprehensive survey by the Women's Business Research Center...to determine our national profile...which showed us as accomplished, earners, managing significant amounts of money and employees...and asked four "brand" questions with regards finding sponsors for the whole organizationI am not answering a survey that asks me what brand of makeup I wear.

Congrats and looking forward to the next "issue"!!!I am a member of the Houston Chapter of WIFT and have worked as a Costume Designer, Make-up Artist and Casting Director for over 20 years in the biz. I would welcome articles/comments about the pros and cons of the increasing depiction of girls and women as 'tough and violent'... More >
Great website. I am enjoying the articles. :)I am the daughter of Denise DuBarry Hay who is the WIF Palm Springs President. My mom just had Gena Rolands to for a Q & A last Saturday and I think a lot of what she had to say was very powerful. I feel that her interview should be up online on your Magazine Site...More >
