I am a member of the Houston Chapter of WIFT and have worked as a Costume Designer, Make-up Artist and Casting Director for over 20 years in the biz.

I would welcome articles/comments about the pros and cons of the increasing depiction of girls and women as 'tough and violent' in more and more movies and TV shows. I personally find it quite disturbing and turn down work on scripts of this nature as I think it is having a seriously detrimental effect on the psyche/values of our young women. I also notice that it is more prevalent in scripts written and directed by men....but now not exclusive to.

In contrast, I was so impressed by the latest commercial from the DOVE campaign "Bombardment" (depicting the onslaught of negative images and advertising bombarding the modern woman in every form of media every day now) and feel it ought to be shown to girls and boys in every school as a mandatory part of their health education curriculum!!

I see a slight reduction in "female token nudity" in our current movies but it distresses me when a female director 'buys into' the notion that one's film will not get distribution without it's inclusion. I'm working with more and more actresses who stand their ground and insist they be recognized for their acting ability rather than their body parts.

It is, however, refreshing to read and watch more and more excellent scripts written and directed by women depicting the special and true nature of women and I welcome the opportunity to work on them.
