September 29th, 2008 CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship Award Deadline Approaching WIFT-T in partnership with CBC Television is accepting applications for the 2008 CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship Award. This national competitive award will give one emerging Canadian female filmmaker the invaluable opportunity to receive creative and business support from CBC Television (Drama). The successful applicant will participate in a weeklong workshop at a designated CBC Television station and be guided through various production and broadcast components of short film. The winner will also establish business and mentoring relationships with CBC Drama staff, Topics and areas of exploration may include: project management, financing film and television production, marketing and distribution, emerging technologies and the impact of technology on content. July 18, 2008 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SADIA ZAMAN REPORT SUMMARY STAFF NEWS In May, Malvina Filipkowski joined WIFT-T as an intern and is now the Programming and Membership Coordinator. We also welcome Kim Haladay as our new Office Manager and Special Events Coordinator. Tara Woodbury has moved on to the Canadian Film Centre. The new Communications Officer will start at the end of August. PROGRAM NEWS In October WIFT-T will launch the Career Transition Program for members who are unemployed, underemployed, need Canadian experience, or those grappling with digital shifts in the industry. CTV has become the Exclusive Broadcast Partner of the WIFT-T Media Leadership Program (in partnership with the Schulich School of Business). After a successful launch, the program returns in February ’09. Leading up to the 20th anniversary of the Crystal Awards, WIFT-T will approach industry stakeholders to encourage them to sponsor Foundation Tables. Twenty designated tables will support the Foundation for Women in Film and Television. For more information contact mjones@wift.com. The Humber Emerging Certificate in Business Management for Media Professionals will also return this fall. As the Shibley Righton Breakfast Stories Series concludes for the summer, we will announce four new upcoming Goodmans Presents panels and networking events late summer and fall. Astral Media Mentorship award winner Michelle Latimer, has received funds from The Movie Network to develop her drama series The River. Corus/Movie Central has come on board to develop the feature Bannock & Bratwurst by producer Marva Ollivierre. Marva is the recipient of the Quebecor Mentorship. DGC Ontario Emerging Television Director Award winner Alison Reid (producer/director) has received financing from Telefilm for Making Babies.
